Even if we are in our 80’s or 90’s (or older!), research has shown that strength and balance can improve at any age! Many of the declines we thought were inevitable with aging are associated with lack of exercise and mobility. Preventing falls is crucial in this age group, and balance exercises for seniors, along with strengthening exercises, have been shown to be highly effective.
Loss of balance is not a “fact of life” as we grow older. Recent studies show that those individuals most at risk of falling can often be identified and helped. Balance training for seniors can be instrumental in maintaining or establishing stability. Fall Prevention is becoming a national initiative. We are increasingly aware that most falls can be prevented.
