I am an ACE Certified Personal Trainer and Certified FallProof™ Instructor. Having worked in the field of physical therapy for over 35 years, initially in hospitals and rehab centers with patients of all ages, I later decided to specialize in helping patients face the physical challenges particular to the midlife and senior years.
Inspired by my former background as a dancer, I moved to New York City in 1980 to study with ballet master and kinesiotherapist Raoul Gelabert, Ph.D. I later taught adult ballet and exercise classes in his school, Gelabert Studios. I find ballet principles of posture, balance, and alignment to be very helpful in working with my patients, and I integrate these principles into my current physical therapy practice.
I completed a specialized training program through the Center for Successful Aging at California State University, Fullerton and am now combining my interests in physical therapy, dance, and exercise by offering community wellness and fall prevention programs for adults in their middle and later years. Through my work in the field, I’ve become extremely aware of the importance of a targeted exercise program of balance and strength training for midlife adults and seniors as a means of preventing falls and improving quality of life.
My mission is to help clients maintain the fullest possible participation in activities that bring them satisfaction and enjoyment throughout their lives. I work with them to address underlying causes of mobility problems, and help them to maintain or improve their strength, flexibility, and balance, which research has shown can respond to intervention at any age. I have a patient who is 102 years old and recently went sailing; another loves teaching singing at 99 years. May more people live such joyful lives at these ages!
